In bible, Sarah & her son's - Isaac. Gen 21:6 "Isaac" means "HE laughs". She said,"God has brought me laughter & everyone who hears about this will laugh with me." How joyful she was.
Rachel called her son- Ben-oni "son of my trouble" when she knew that she was dying in labour. Gen 35:16-20
Hannah named her son, Samuel. In Hebrew, it means "heard of God" for God had heard her cries for a child. 1 Samuel 1:20
All showed a great relationship between God & these women whether in their happiness or sadness, grace or suffering. Many of these OT prophets had names that spoke about their mission. Throughout Scriptures, God gives His people names that convey a pciture of their significance & worth to HIM. Exodus 19:5, Malachi 3:17, we are His "treasures/possessions". Deuteronomy 4:20 - "sons of the Living God", Hosea 1:10 - "we are his friends".
A thought:- What is my name meant to me? Or do the names of our offsprings mean to me? If you were to ask God to change your name what would you want your name to be, or mean? What would you like to be named as? Nim Tze- Maria; Lucy - Grace; Iris- 柔然...
Back to Scriptures, Gen 17:5-6 & 17:15-16, God changed Abram to Abraham (which means the father of Nations) & Sarai to Sarah (which means the mother of Nations) , Jacob to Israel. God renamed us & reminded us also the purpose of our life. Isaiah 43:19 "See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up." My lord wants to give me a name today which will change my life. A word is on the tip of HIS tongue. It is my new name. Like Peter (which means the rock) was formerly known as Simon. Parallel to this new name, Jesus gave Peter an important destiny in the Kingdom, too. However, we, as multi-task modern women, will be easily detracted from God's mission on us for the following reasons:-
1. it is the age of immediate:- result-oriented;
2. we are all great "do-it-yourselfers", like Sarah in fulfilling God's promise by her own means;
3. tight time schedule;
4. a negative name/label on ourselves.
Summing up:-
Grasping a godly inspiration from 1 Peter 1:3 - the birth of a new life. To perceive God's promises by naming us, HE has already instilled Dream into us. We act our dreams, let's practise in a spiritual manner like Jabez (1 Chronicles 4:9-10) or Esther 4:15-16 or Nehemiah 1:4-6.
They are:- Prayer, Fast, Pray a lot with all my heart...
